પ્રિય ફાધર વર્ગીસ પોલની વિદાય ને આજે એક વર્ષ થયું...
ફાધર વર્ગીસ પોલ ને પ્રેમાંજલિ ... સલામ !
ગુજરાતી લેખક મંડળ ના અધ્યક્ષ એટલે ફાધર વર્ગીસ પોલ.સદાય હસતું, પ્રેમાળ વ્યક્તિત્વ. છેલ્લાં બાવીસેક વર્ષથી મંડળની શુક્રવારી સભાઓમાં નિયમિત હાજરી.માત્ર હાજરી નહીં, સક્રિય ભાગીદારી. મંડળમાં તમામ કામો સૌની ભાગીદારી થી કરવાનો આદર્શ છે. મંડળ ના અમારા અધ્યક્ષ ફાધર બધાં માટે ચા પણ મૂકે, સૌને આપે અને વાસણ પણ સાફ કરી નાંખે..! એમની આ સહજતા એ મંડળના સૌ કોઈ ને સૌ કોઈ કામ કરતાં કરી દીધાં !જાણે કે મંડળની આંતરિક લોકશાહી ઘૂંટાતી રહી...
મંડળ પાસે શરુઆત માં ટાંચા સાધનો.ગુજરાત માં દૂરસુદૂર આવેલી શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્થાઓ માં લેખન કૌશલ શિબિરો કરવા જવાનું થાય.ફાધર પોતાની જીપ તો લે જ,જાતે જ ચલાવે અને એટલી જ સ્ફૂર્તિ થી વિદ્યાર્થીઓ સાથે એકાકાર થઈ જાય..!મને યાદ છે એકવાર જસદણ પાસે ના આટકોટ ની શાળા-કોલેજ માં શિબિર હતી.ડિસેમ્બર મહિના ની છેલ્લી તારીખો માં.નાતાલ ના દિવસો.મને એમ કે ફાધર નહીં આવે.ફાધર કહે 'કામ કરવું એ જ નાતાલ !'
અને પહેલી જાન્યુઆરી ની વહેલી સવારે મેં જાગીને જોયું તો ફાધર એક ખૂણામાં બેસીને રોજની જેમ જ લેખન કાર્ય કરી રહ્યા હતા.
ફાધરે 50 થી વધુ પુસ્તકો લખ્યાં છે.મોટાભાગના પુસ્તકો યુવાનો માટે.યુવાનો માં ફાધર નાં પુસ્તકો ખૂબ વંચાય છે.
સૌથી નોંધપાત્ર વાત એ છે કે ફાધરની માતૃભાષા મલયાલમ.પણ કર્મભૂમિ ગુજરાત.ગુજરાતી ભાષામાં જ આજીવન લખ્યું. અને ગુજરાત ની પ્રતિષ્ઠિત પ્રકાશન સંસ્થાઓએ તેમનાં પુસ્તકો પ્રગટ કર્યાં છે.
ખાસ કરીને ગુજરાતી લેખક મંડળ ને એમણે ઘણું બધું આપ્યું છે.મંડળ લેખકોના હક,હિત, ગૌરવ માટે છેલ્લાં સત્યાવીસ વર્ષથી કાર્યરત છે,એ હજીયે કામ કરી રહ્યું છે તેમાં ફાધર ની ભૂમિકા મહત્વની છે.લેખક મંડળ પાસે પોતાની કોઈ કાયમી જગ્યા નથી.એકવાર એકાએક પ્રશ્ન ઊભો થતો કે હવે મંડળ ક્યાં કામ કરશે ? આપણે ત્યાં ઘણી સાહિત્યિક સંસ્થાઓ છે, તેમનાં મોટા મકાનો છે,પણ રખે ને કોઈ પચાવી પાડશે એવી મધ્યમવર્ગીય માલિકપણાની ભયગ્રસ્ત માનસિકતા થી પીડાઈ ને કોઈ ના માટે દરવાજા ખોલે નહીં..!
ફાધરે તાત્કાલિક તો પ્રશાંત માં આવેલી પોતાની ખાલી ઓફિસ આપી દીધી..ને તે પછી જુની હાઈકોર્ટ પાસે આવેલી પોતાની ચાલુ ઓફિસમાં જ બધી વ્યવસ્થાઓ ઉભી કરી દીધી..અને મંડળ ટકી ગયું... નિયમિત કામ કરતું રહ્યું..કરી રહ્યું છે...
ફાધર મંડળના દરેક કાર્યમાં ડગલે ને પગલે યાદ આવશે..
ફાધર, તમે કસમયે વિદાય લીધી.. છેલ્લા સવા વર્ષથી વડોદરા હોસ્પિટલમાં હતા.. ફોન પર અવારનવાર વાત થતી પણ કોરોના કાળમાં રૂબરૂ નહીં મળાયું..!
તમારું પ્રેમભર્યું સ્મિત મંડળને સદાય ધબકતું રાખશે..

Tribute to Father Vargis Paul... Salute!
President of Gujarati writers association means Father Vargis Paul. Always smiling, loving personality. A regular presence in the Friday meetings of the congregation for the last twenty-two years. Not just attendance, active partnership. It is ideal to do all the work in the Mandal with the participation of everyone. Our Chairman of the Mandal Father also offers tea for everyone, gives it to everyone, and also cleans the utensils..! His instinct has made everyone in the Mandal do some work! As if the internal democracy of the congregation continues to sip...
Stitching tools at the beginning near the Mandal. Writing skill camps should be done in educational institutions far away in Gujarat. Father takes his jeep, drives it himself, and with the same enthusiasm, he becomes united with the students..! I remember once there was a camp in the school college of Atkot near Jasdan. On the last dates of December. The days of Christmas. I think father will not come. Father says 'Doing work is Christmas! '
And early in the morning of January 1st, I woke up to see Father sitting in a corner doing writing work like every day.
Father has written more than 50 books. Most books are for young people. Father's books are very much read in youth.
The most remarkable thing is Malayalam the mother tongue of Father. But the workplace Gujarat. Wrote lifetime in the Gujarati language. And Gujarat's prestigious publications have published their books.
Especially he has given a lot to the Gujarati writers association. The board has been operating for the last twenty-four years for the rights, interest, and pride of the writers, the role of the Father is important is it still working. The writer's board has no permanent place of its own. Once suddenly a question arises where will the council work now? We have many literary institutions there, their big houses, but those who are suffering from the horrific mentality of middle-class ownership will be kept and will not open the doors for anyone..!
Father immediately gave him his empty office in Pacific... And then all the arrangements were set up in its current office near the old high court... And the congregation survived... Been working on a routine... Doing it...
In every work of Father Mandal, you will be remembered by every step...
Father, you swear goodbye... He was in Vadodara hospital for the last quarter of years. We used to talk frequently on phone but did not meet in person during the Corona period..!
Your loving smile will always keep the group beating...
